Cookies Policy

Last updated: 20 May 2026

This Cookies Policy explains how Co-Erasmus uses cookies and similar technologies on this website.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies (such as local storage or session storage) may also be used to store or access information on your device.

2. What cookies and similar technologies do we use?

Co-Erasmus uses only technologies that are strictly necessary for the operation, security, and core features of the platform.

  • Sign-in and security: session-related storage (for example in session storage) to keep you logged in securely and to protect the service.
  • Cookie notice: a record in local storage of that you have read our cookie notice (so we do not show it on every visit).
  • Maps (Mapbox): our interactive maps are an essential part of Co-Erasmus (exploring listings, viewing approximate locations, and placing a room on the map during listing). Maps are delivered by Mapbox. When you use map features, Mapbox may process technical data (such as your IP address) and may set or access cookies or similar technologies on your device as required to provide the map service.

Co-Erasmus does not use its own cookies for advertising, marketing, profiling, or analytics purposes.

3. Why we use these technologies

They are used in order to:

  • ensure the website loads and functions properly
  • maintain basic security and protect against misuse
  • enable secure sign-in and account-related features
  • provide map-based features that are central to the room-swap service
  • remember that you have acknowledged this Cookies Policy notice

These technologies are used because they are necessary to provide the service you request or to ensure the secure and proper operation of the website, including essential map functionality.

4. Mapbox (third-party maps)

Map features on Co-Erasmus are provided by Mapbox. When a map loads or you interact with it, Mapbox may receive technical information needed to deliver tiles, geocoding, and related map services. For more information, see Mapbox's privacy policy and cookie practices at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.

Mapbox is based in the United States. This means that, when map services are used, personal data may be transferred outside the EEA. Where required, such transfers must be covered by appropriate safeguards (for example, contractual transfer safeguards). Co-Erasmus reviews this setup as part of its data protection compliance process.

For professional deployments, you should keep the Mapbox contractual data protection documentation (including the applicable DPA/transfer terms) with your legal records.

5. Legal basis

Under the GDPR and the ePrivacy rules, strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies may be used without consent where they are essential to provide a service you have requested or to ensure the security and operation of the website.

We rely on this basis for sign-in-related storage, the cookie notice record, and Mapbox map services, because interactive maps are an indispensable part of how Co-Erasmus works.

If we introduce optional non-essential cookies or similar technologies in the future (for example analytics or marketing), we will ask for your consent before using them and update this policy.

6. Duration

Session-related data is generally removed when you close your browser or end your session. The cookie notice record remains until you clear site data or we publish a new notice version.

Retention periods for data processed by Mapbox are determined by Mapbox according to its own policies.

7. Managing cookies

You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies and site storage. Please note that blocking strictly necessary technologies may prevent sign-in, maps, and other core features from working correctly.

8. Changes to this Cookies Policy

We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect legal, technical, or operational changes. The version published on this website is the current version.
