Cookies Policy

Last updated: 1 August 2026

This Cookies Policy explains how Co-Erasmus uses cookies and similar technologies on this website.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies (such as local storage or session storage) may also be used to store or access information on your device.

2. What cookies and similar technologies do we use?

Co-Erasmus uses technologies needed for the operation and security of the platform. On your first visit you can keep Essential technologies and optionally enable Maps (Mapbox), then continue.

  • Sign-in and security (essential): session-related storage (for example in session storage) to keep you logged in securely and to protect the service.
  • Cookie notice (essential): a record in local storage of your cookie preference (so we do not show the notice on every visit).
  • Maps (Mapbox, optional until accepted): interactive maps are used to explore listings, view approximate locations, and place a room on the map when listing. Maps are delivered by Mapbox. Mapbox is only loaded after you enable maps and continue (on the first notice, or later when you open a map feature). When maps are used, Mapbox may process technical data (such as your IP address) and may set or access cookies or similar technologies as required to provide the map service.

Co-Erasmus does not use its own cookies for advertising, marketing, profiling, or analytics purposes.

3. Why we use these technologies

They are used in order to:

  • ensure the website loads and functions properly
  • maintain basic security and protect against misuse
  • enable secure sign-in and account-related features
  • provide map-based features when you choose to enable them
  • remember your cookie preference for this notice

Essential technologies are used because they are necessary to provide the service you request or to ensure the secure and proper operation of the website. Mapbox is used only after you accept maps, because map features depend on that third-party service.

4. Mapbox (third-party maps)

Map features on Co-Erasmus are provided by Mapbox. When a map loads or you interact with it, Mapbox may receive technical information needed to deliver tiles, geocoding, and related map services. For more information, see Mapbox's privacy policy and cookie practices at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.

If you leave maps unchecked, you can still use most of the site. Map views and map-based address placement stay unavailable until you enable maps. If you later open a map feature, we will ask you again to accept Mapbox.

Mapbox is based in the United States. This means that, when map services are used, personal data may be transferred outside the EEA. Where required, such transfers must be covered by appropriate safeguards (for example, contractual transfer safeguards). Co-Erasmus reviews this setup as part of its data protection compliance process.

For professional deployments, you should keep the Mapbox contractual data protection documentation (including the applicable DPA/transfer terms) with your legal records.

5. Legal basis

Under the GDPR and the ePrivacy rules, strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies may be used without consent where they are essential to provide a service you have requested or to ensure the security and operation of the website.

We rely on this basis for sign-in-related storage and the cookie notice preference record. Mapbox is only activated after you accept maps (either on the first notice or when you try to use a map feature).

If we introduce other optional non-essential cookies or similar technologies in the future (for example analytics or marketing), we will ask for your consent before using them and update this policy.

6. Duration

Session-related data is generally removed when you close your browser or end your session. The cookie notice record remains until you clear site data or we publish a new notice version.

Retention periods for data processed by Mapbox are determined by Mapbox according to its own policies.

7. Managing cookies

You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies and site storage. Please note that blocking strictly necessary technologies may prevent sign-in and other core features from working correctly. If you clear site data, you may see the cookie notice again and will need to re-accept maps before Mapbox features load.

8. Changes to this Cookies Policy

We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect legal, technical, or operational changes. The version published on this website is the current version.
