Legal requirements guide
Before you commit to a swap, check whether your lease, landlord, student residence, or local housing rules allow another student to stay in your room or apartment.
Co-Erasmus helps students organize swaps, but it does not replace your lease, landlord approval, university housing rules, or legal advice.
Whole-place swap
Landlord permission is required before another student stays in your room or apartment, even if it is only for a limited period.
Room swap
If you only share part of your home, you can ask your landlord for permission. The landlord can only refuse if there is a serious reason, such as overcrowding, safety concerns, or the arrangement being unreasonable.
Legal basis
BGB §540 and BGB §553.
