Legal requirements for Erasmus housing in Belgium
Before you commit to renting, subletting, or swapping, check whether your lease, landlord, student residence, or local housing rules allow another student to stay in your room or apartment.
Co-Erasmus helps students organize peer-to-peer housing, but it does not replace your lease, landlord approval, university housing rules, or legal advice.
Whole-place temporary swap
If the property is your principal residence, you cannot sublet the entire property, even temporarily.
Partial room / shared apartment
You can only sublet part of the property if you continue to live in the remaining part as your principal residence.
Why? Legal basis
Brussels Housing Code, Article 230.
