Legal requirements for Erasmus housing in France
Before you commit to renting, subletting, or swapping, check whether your lease, landlord, student residence, or local housing rules allow another student to stay in your room or apartment.
Co-Erasmus helps students organize peer-to-peer housing, but it does not replace your lease, landlord approval, university housing rules, or legal advice.
Whole-place swap
Written landlord permission is required before another student stays in your rented room or apartment.
Room swap
Written landlord permission is still required for temporary subletting.
Legal basis
Loi n° 89-462 du 6 juillet 1989, Article 8.
