Legal requirements for Erasmus housing in Italy
Before you commit to renting, subletting, or swapping, check whether your lease, landlord, student residence, or local housing rules allow another student to stay in your room or apartment.
Co-Erasmus helps students organize peer-to-peer housing, but it does not replace your lease, landlord approval, university housing rules, or legal advice.
Whole-place swap
Italian law allows subletting unless the rental contract says otherwise. So your lease decides whether a temporary swap is allowed.
Partial room / shared apartment
The same rule applies: temporary subletting is allowed unless your rental contract restricts or forbids it.
Legal basis
Italian Civil Code Article 1594.
