Legal requirements for Erasmus housing in Netherlands
Before you commit to renting, subletting, or swapping, check whether your lease, landlord, student residence, or local housing rules allow another student to stay in your room or apartment.
Co-Erasmus helps students organize peer-to-peer housing, but it does not replace your lease, landlord approval, university housing rules, or legal advice.
Whole-place swap
Landlord approval is required if another student will use the full rented home while you are away.
Partial room / shared apartment
Partial use is only allowed under a specific exception: the home must remain your main residence, and the other student may only use part of it.
Legal basis
Dutch Civil Code Book 7, Article 244.
