Legal requirements for Erasmus housing in Portugal
Before you commit to renting, subletting, or swapping, check whether your lease, landlord, student residence, or local housing rules allow another student to stay in your room or apartment.
Co-Erasmus helps students organize peer-to-peer housing, but it does not replace your lease, landlord approval, university housing rules, or legal advice.
Whole-place swap
Written landlord authorization is required before another student uses the full rented place.
Partial room / shared apartment
A tenant must not give another person total or partial use of the property unless the law allows it or the landlord authorizes it.
Legal basis
Portuguese Civil Code Articles 1038, 1062, and 1088.
